James Alexander Steele, Ship's Cook and Steward, Merchant Navy -1939-45 Star -Atlantic Star clasp France & Germany] -Africa Star -War Medal Mounted as worn and unnamed as issued. Ministry of Transport medal certificate. 2 Board of Trade Continuous Certificate of Discharge books showing he was born 11th October 1914, Edinburgh. British citizen. First showing C. engagement 4th April 1940 rated as Ship's Cook, Steward and Chief Steward. Sailing from Leith, Glasgow, Manchester, Dundee, Aberdeen etc. Various ships throughout WWII and post war. First booklet completed 5th May 1952. His home address was listed as 47 Montrose Terrace, Abbey Hill, Edinburgh, Scotland. Second booklet shows service until 1972, finishing with a rank of Catering Officer. This with visa for Dakar and the CCCP (Soviet Union). Accompanied by an extensive research file in addition to the 2 Board of Trade booklets. Condition as shown in photographs

-1939-45 Star -Atlantic Star (clasp France & Germany) -Africa Star (clasp North Africa 1942-43) -Italy Star -War Medal with MID Oakleaf -Royal Naval Reserve Decoration George VI (officially dated on reverse 1948) All unnamed as issued Accompanied by extensive research, photos and original documentation. Lieutenant Commander John Evelyn Bromley joined T & J Harrison shipping company as a cadet October 1926 promoted Quartermaster May 1931, 3rd Mate April 1934 and joined the Royal Naval Reserve as a Sublieutenant March 1937, promoted 2nd Officer April 1938 and Royal Naval Reserve active service WWII November 1939 serving as Lieutenant Commander til October 1945. He returned to T & J Harrison shipping company in February 1946 serving as 2nd Officer, Chief Officer and Master from February 1956. Her continued serving as master until May 1971. His service record shows him hitting a dock wall with S.S. Historian! 1962 and ge appears to have been suspended for 3 months? in 1964. The original documentation and research offer a full timeline of his maritime and naval career. All compiled in 1 file.  Excellent opportunity to acquire a Merchant Naval Officer’s medal group with much original documentation.  Condition as shown in photographs

Confirms her serving at Weston Super Mare and Brent Knoll Hospitals. Mounted as worn. The Voluntary Medical Service Medal was awarded for 15 years service and the bar for an additional period of 5 years. This is a silver example. Condition as shown in photographs

Lewis R.N.R. -1939-45 Star (privately named J.D.E.Lewis R.N.R.) -Atlantic Star (privately named J.D.E.Lewis R.N.R.) -Burma Star (privately named J.D.E.Lewis R.N.R.) -War Medal (privately named J.D.E.Lewis R.N.R.) -Queen Elizabeth II Coronation Medal (privately named J.D.E.Lewis R.N.R.) -Royal Naval Reserve Decoration George VI with 2 additional Elizabeth II Long Service Clasps (officially dated 1945 and additionally named on rear top of medal J.D.E.Lewis R.N.R.) (these are mounted as worn) -Soviet 40th Anniversary 1945-1985 Medal (unnamed as issued) Accompanied by 3 volumes of extensive research, photographs and some original documentation. He was born in 1916 in West Sussex and started his Merchant Navy career with the Royal Mail Lines and applied to join the Royal Naval Reserve as a Sublieutenant taking up his R.N.R. appointment in 1939 just as war broke out. He served with the Navy until 1946 when he took up an appointment as a River Thames Pilot. He was promoted to Lieutenant Commander in 1948 and took part in the Great Coronation parade in 1953 thus earning his Coronation Medal. He continued to serve with the Royal Naval Reserve until 1956, promoted to Commander. This group has a really impressive archive or original and researched documentation including certificates, photos and documents. Viewing is highly recommended if in Torquay. Condition as shown in photographs
