Nichol Robertson of the 1st 4th Battalion wrote after the action 'And of course the Turks could concentrate everything they had on one small sector. The Turks were on the defensive and we just got everything they could possibly lay into us. We were ordered to take three lines of trenches and when we got to the first, there was another practically obliterated and there was no such thing as a third line so we ended up right out in the open and were out-flanked on either side by the Turks.'
