Description
258 Sergeant Syril Carfield Straw 10th Bn. Sherwood Forresters
Serjeant Straw died during the Battle of the Somme, which began on 1 July 1916. The 10th Battalion was heavily involved in the fighting around Fricourt and the assault on Quadrangle Support during the first half of July. Given the date of his death (15 July), it is likely he was wounded during these intense engagements and evacuated to the hospital base at Le Tréport, where he eventually succumbed to his injuries.
