Original Buckingham Palace note and photograph of him in uniform (both laminated)

With Commonwealth War Graves Commission research. Lance Corporal William Johnson Barnett 18112 D. company 1st Battalion Kings Own Scottish Borderers. Killed in action 25th August 1915 aged 35 and commemorated on the Helles Memorial. He was the son of Thomas and Fanny Barnett and the husband of Elizabeth Barnett of 44 Rugby Street, Wolverhampton.

His medal index card shows he entered the Balkans Theatre of War 30th June 1915 and he took part in the Sulva Bay assault on 21st August being killed in action shortly after. The Kings Own Scottish Borders took heavy casualties in this assault.
