Commemorated at the Villers Hill British Cemetery Villers-Guislain. One of 11 killed in action from the regiment on that day. John Mayhew was born in Chelsea, London around 1891 and enlisted at Hounslow serving with the 1st 4th (City of Bristol) Bn Gloucestershire Regt. He was killed in action 9th October 1917. He is commemorated on the Tyne Cot memorial, panel 72-75 and was the son of the late William and Joanna Mayhew. Condition as shown in photographs

-1914-15 WWI Trio 1563 Pte. E. J. Sharples Manch. R. -1935 Silver Jubilee Cheadle Commemorative Medal -1937 Cheadle Commemorative Coronation Medal (both unnamed) Ernest was born 23rd June 1894 in Chorlton, Manchester. The 1911 census lists him as an apprentice at a Tea Merchants. He joined the 1/6th Manchester Regiment Territorials and on 5th May 1915 he left for Egypt with the destination being Gallipoli. The Battalion was evacuated from Gallipoli on 28th December 1915. He was discharged in 1918. He appears to have emigrated March 1924 to Halifax, Canada but died 1978 Clwyd aged 84 years. His regimental number is also listed as 250179. He was awarded the silver wound badge number B61144 not with the medals and it's not clear if he was wounded at Gallipoli or after. Accompanied by a file of service and family research. Condition as shown in photographs
