1914 5th Lancers Casualty Plaque

WWI Plaque named Albert John Russell. 7018 Sergeant Albert John Russell, 5th Royal Irish Lancers Albert John Russell was born in the army barracks Sial Kote 5th October 1884 where his father was serving as a Sergeant Farrier and Quarter Master with the 5th Royal Irish Lancers. His mother Jessie (Doyle) came from Teignmouth, Devon and he was baptised on 26th October 1884 at Sial Kote. The family returned to the UK in 1898 after his father retired from the army and they moved to Teignmouth in Devon. Albert joined his father's regiment the 5th Royal Irish Lancers in 1904/5. The 1911 census shows him as a Corporal at Shrapnel Barracks, Woolich and he is single. He served in Dublin after 1911 and was promoted to Staff Sergeant. On 5th August 1914, the regiment was ordered to France as part of the 3rd Cavalry brigade under General Gough. They fought at the Battle of Mons and in October were involved in the Battle of Messines and the first Battle of Ypes. Sergeant Russell was severely wounded on 30th October fighting at Hellebeke in Belgium and died of wounds the next day 31st October 1914, aged 30. He is buried in Kemmel churchyard, Belgium and is also commemorated on the Saint James memorial window Teignmouth. He would also be entitled to a Mons 1914 Star Trio. Well documented WWI Plaque to a regular serving soldier, killed in action in the early stages of WWI. Condition as shown in photographs

No. 46 Sepoy Sohbat Kahn 59th- R.F.L.S.  Served for the 59th Scinde Rifles (Frontier Force) during WWI. The regiment served with great gallantry on the Western Front fighting in the battles of Givenchy, Neuve Chapelle, Aubers Ridge, the second battle of Ypres and the battle of Loos. In 1916, the regiment served in Mesopotamia and fought in the bloody battles for the relief of Kut al Amara and the capture of Baghdad. For it’s gallant conduct during the war, it was made a Royal Regiment in 1921. A good Mons Star to a heavily engaged Indian Regiment.  Condition as shown in photographs

Farmer 1st Dgn Gds Queens South Africa Clasps, Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal, South Africa 1901, South Africa 1902 Alfred Farmer was born in Lambeth, London and enlisted for a short service engagement with the 1st Dragoon Guards in London 8th February 1900 aged 18yrs, 9months. He gave his occupation as 'Hammerman'. He saw active service in South Africa from 8th January 1901- 14th November 1903. He transferred to the Army reserve 8th March 1908 and was fully discharged 7th February 1912. Condition as shown in photographs
