With copy service details showing Ernest was born in London 1st March 1885 at St Pancras and enlisted April 1903 giving his trade as a ‘Railway Porter’ in the Chatham Division. Discharged February 1909. He then enlisted into the Metropolitan Police 15th March 1909 and resigned on being recalled to the Royal Marines for WWI War Service 5th August 1914. Saw service on H.M.S. Humber.
H.M.S. Humber took part in operations along the Belgium coast October-November 1914 and was then towed to Malta arriving of Gallipoli in June 1915. She then saw service as the Guardship at Akaba. He was finally discharged March 1919.
Interesting combination of medals. With copy service documents.
