He was born in 1916 in West Sussex and started his Merchant Navy career with the Royal Mail Lines and applied to join the Royal Naval Reserve as a Sublieutenant taking up his R.N.R. appointment in 1939 just as war broke out. He served with the Navy until 1946 when he took up an appointment as a River Thames Pilot. He was promoted to Lieutenant Commander in 1948 and took part in the Great Coronation parade in 1953 thus earning his Coronation Medal. He continued to serve with the Royal Naval Reserve until 1956, promoted to Commander.
This group has a really impressive archive or original and researched documentation including certificates, photos and documents. Viewing is highly recommended if in Torquay.
