Ernest was born 23rd June 1894 in Chorlton, Manchester. The 1911 census lists him as an apprentice at a Tea Merchants. He joined the 1/6th Manchester Regiment Territorials and on 5th May 1915 he left for Egypt with the destination being Gallipoli. The Battalion was evacuated from Gallipoli on 28th December 1915. He was discharged in 1918. He appears to have emigrated March 1924 to Halifax, Canada but died 1978 Clwyd aged 84 years. His regimental number is also listed as 250179. He was awarded the silver wound badge number B61144 not with the medals and it’s not clear if he was wounded at Gallipoli or after.
