With Commonwealth War Graves paperwork confirming killed in action 6th October 1916, commemorated on the Loos memorial

Medal Index card confirming medal entitlement

William was born in Plymouth, he had previous service with the Militia and was probably killed in action on a raid on the German trenches opposite Essex Lane on 6th October 1916 when the Devons sustained 40 casualties having been caught by machine gun fire.
