28 Pte. J. Robertson 1st Royal West Kent Regt.

Pitting from Star and edge wear (very fine)

James Robertson was born at Plymouth, Devon in 1862 signing on for the Royal West Kent Regiment August 1881 and was posted to the 1st Btn. Arriving in Egypt on 3rd August 1882 he served for a few months before being posted to Cyprus 12th August 1882. He returned to Egypt on 4th September 1884 to participate in The Nile Expedition under General Wolsey. He continued to serve in Egypt and Sudan variously until 16th June 1886. He is likely to also have seen service at the Battle of Guiness in 1885 under Sir Francis Grenfell. After another 2 years service in Gibraltar from 17th June 1886 to 14th May 1889 he returned for home service. He was discharged on 1st August 1893.
