Small letter reverse 1874-1901

1771. Pte. F. Morris. 11th Hussars

Frederick was born in Trowbridge, Wiltshire in 1858. He enlisted into the 11th Hussars at Aldershot 28th August 1879 giving his trade as a servant. Much of his early service time was spent in and out of hospital with Bronchitis and other ailments. He married Emily E. Batty at the Parish Church Carrigaline, County Cork whilst serving in Ireland. He continued to suffer from Bronchitis which hospitalised him from time to time. He saw service in South Africa with his regiment for just over 2 years from July 1890. He was then transferred to India 24th October 1892. He then spent further time in hospital with a reoccurrence of Bronchitis. He was awarded his Victorian Long Service Medal during this period. He transferred back to the UK 24th March 1899 clearly an unwell man. He was admitted to Netley Military Hospital 15th April 1899 and was found unfit for further military service 27th June 1899. He was discharged as an invalid having served a total of 19 years, 304 days of which 8 years, 341 days were abroad. Sadly Frederick died in Trowbridge in the Octover-Decemebr quartz of 1899 aged only 41.
