Lieut Chas Fortunatus Grant 3rd Regt. N.I.
Lieutenant Charles Fortunatus Grant of the 3rd Regiment of Bombay Native Infantry (N.I.) was a British colonial officer who had a long and highly successful career serving the Honourable East India Company in India.
Military Career & Key Achievements
- Early Service: He entered military service as an Ensign in 1837. He was educated in England at Blundell’s School in Tiverton prior to his deployment.
- Promotions: He achieved the rank of Lieutenant in 1841, serving as a regimental Quartermaster, before rising to Captain, Major (1863), Lieutenant-Colonel, and finally Colonel in 1867.
- The Second Anglo-Sikh War (1848–1849): As a lieutenant with the 3rd Native Infantry, he fought in major engagements in the Punjab region.
- Medals and Decorations: For his service in the Punjab campaign, he was awarded the Punjab Medal featuring two highly collectible campaign clasps: “Goojerat” and “Mooltan”.
