George Masters was born in 1858 in Bloxwich, Staffordshire. He enlisted in the Manchester regiment 7th May 1879. He was 5ft. 5″ tall and gave his trade as a ‘Slater’. He served in Malta and was posted to Egypt August 1882 with his regiment serving for 62 days in the Egyptian Campaign being awarded the Egypt Campaign medal 1882 no clasps and the Khedive Star. He then served in the East Indies for a period of just over 7 years. Arriving back in England on 7th November 1889 and discharged having served a total of 10 years and 183 days.
