Arthur John Barker and Wilfred Stanley Barker
Arthur John Barker was born in Hampsthwaite in 1887, the eldest son of Harry and Ellen Barker. The 1911 census records him as working as a farm labourer. His father was a farmer and he was living with his parents, his sister Nelly and brother Wilfred at Clarence House, Hampsthwaite. He enlisted at Castleford with service no. 5387 serving as a rifleman in the 1st 8th battalion Prince of Wales West Yorkshire Regt. He was killed in action 11th July 1916 and is buried in the Blighty Valley cemetery, Authille, France.
Wilfred Stanley Barker was born in Hampsthwaite 1900 and was the second son of Harry and Ellen Barker. He enlisted at Harrogate 42622 Pte. in the 1st Bn. Leicester Regt. He was killed in action 21st July 1918 aged 18 and buried in Klein- Vierstraat British cemetery.
An opportunity to obtain a pair of plaques to siblings both of whom sadly died during WWI.
