-Egypt & Sudan Medal 1882 dated reverse, 2 clasps Tel-El-Kebir and The Nile 1884-85- 1419 Bugr J. McDonald 2/D of LI -Army Long Service & Good Conduct Medal VR 3rd issue small letter reverse, 1419 J. McDonald D of Corn LI -Khedive's Star dated 1882 reverse regimentally impressed, 1419 J. M.D James McDonald was born at Templemore county Tipperary (where the depot of the 46th foot was based at the time) and appears on the 1871 census an orphan of the 46th Foot. (Possibly his father was Pte. John McDonald who served with the 46th Foot in the Crimea). He attested for the 46th Foot at Aldershot on 7th September 1871 and was appointed to Drummer 21st July 1872. He served with them overseas in Bermuda, Gibraltar, Malta and with the 2nd Bn. in Egypt and the Sudan from 20th July 1882- 16th June 1886 pointed Lance Corporal on 2nd May 1887 and was awarded his Long Service & Good Conduct Medal on 27th February 1890. He was dischareged on 6th September 1896 with 25 years service. Accompanied by copy record of service and other research where his Christian name is also given as both Edward and John.
